Via Lisbon, Portugal and Frankfurt, Germany. Jeanette and I are headed back to the States for a combination business-vacation trip. Today we fly from Ponta Delgada, Azores to Lisbon, Portugal then connect to a flight to Frankfurt, Germany. We'll spend the night there and pick up a United flight to Washington, DC.
Jeanette hasn't had a vacation in quite a while so she is really looking forward to this trip. Our friends Renato and Marisa will be keeping an eye on the cats while we're away. |

Its time to get two new tires for the Saab. But where in the islands am I going to get Pirelli P6 tires? I thought I would be able to get them at a reasonable price through Lajes AFB. But they're under contract to only sell Cooper tires. I could try locally but with the exchange rate plus shipping to the island, I'd pay a fortune. I found out that The Tire Rack is APO-friendly. So, based on some research into their prices and from people who have used them, I decided to give them a try. Today, they arrived. No problems from Lajes, Sata Airlines or the Consulate about them. Unfortunately, they're going to sit in the garage until I come back from my two month trip to the States. |

In the town of Porto Formoso, there is a tea plantation. Every time at this year they have a festival where the workers dress in traditional garb and put on demonstrations throughout the day of what life on the plantation was like years ago. Jean, Hector, Jeanette and I went to watch. In the end, Jean and Hector got dressed up and participated as well. Everyone was very friendly and inviting. We tried one of their teas and saw how the leaves are processed from the bush to basket to factory to final product.
